About Our Online Workshops

The Ph.D. Workshops is the ultimate springboard to your doctoral viva success.Through our rewarding online workshops, participants will learn the tools they need to achieve their goals and thrive in various elements of the PhD - including the viva, writing, communication and more.

Our outstanding facilitators, Dr Stacey Bedwell and Dr Isabelle Butcher, spent many years working in academia before bringing their experience to The Ph.D. Workshops.

Our flagship workshop, The Ph.D. Viva Workshop is a one day online event, held via Zoom. Like all of our events, The Ph.D. Viva Workshop is open to all - we do not have any restrictions on discipline, stage of project, institution or geographical location. The Ph.D. Viva Workshop covers a range of topics, aimed to prepare you for the Ph.D. viva. Sessions include debunking myths, insights into real viva experiences, dealing with viva anxiety and opportunities to hear and practice answering common questions. Our participants also say it is a great opportunity to meet and talk to Ph.D. students from all over the UK.

Reviews

"I passed my progression viva without corrections! Thank you once again for all your help!"

"Many thanks to both of you for your feedback, this is very helpful! Your review contains great points, which you explained very clearly! There are also points which I have not considered earlier, so I will be happy to think about these in more depth before my viva. I will also think about how I can strengthen my arguments."

"I just wanted to let you know that I passed my viva with moderate corrections. It was an extremely intense and challenging viva but all of the preparation including your mock enabled me to articulate my answers really well; I was commended on my performance! Thank you both so much again, your guidance was so very helpful and I will point others in your direction!"

How to excel in your doctoral viva

How to excel in your doctoral viva offers an accessible guide to approaching and preparing for a PhD viva examination. The book explains what the viva is, how the process works, and what the purpose of the viva is. It guides the reader through the course of preparing for their viva examination, with chapters focusing on organisation to dealing with viva concerns.
